“…egging him on to the song’s climax, where he rises to a full shout on the lines “It makes no sense/ But I’m desperate to connect.” Judging by the sounds here, the connection isn’t going to happen anytime soon…”

boy, how wrong is this guy?!

didn’t he do his research? considering “hearts a mess” was #8 on JJJ’s 2006 Hottest 100, i’d say the connection happened pretty bloody strongly!

and giving it 6.8/10 is somewhat inadequate, too. either the reviewer doesn’t get it (and really, the album’s not hard to “get” at all - it’s quite accessible, if anything), or pitchfork’s reviewers are just super hard to impress. pitchfork reviews are often tough. raising the bar and demanding quality is never a bad thing, but really, when reviews for an album are unanimously positive and then you read pitchfork’s review and it fails to share the same enthusiasm (or not to the same degree), then you begin to wonder.

    at least it’s consistently proportional!

rest assured, wally, australia loves “like drawing blood” and more and more people are connecting with it! :)

i’m connected , man man man I love the lyrics restecp for that ! although(?) ,like the reviewer , i connect the best with learnalilgivinanlovin since it really gets you, or me ,or everybody soon…

studio brussels is definitly playing it a lot
so that should makes it ‘groovy’ ? or how do they say that nowadays? ;)

I have just discovered Gotye; I heard ‘The Only Way’ on Aussie radio when I visited Oz in March this year. I bought the album ‘Like Drawing Blood’ and have been completely blown away by it. It is the best music I have heard in a long time and I look forward to hearing more of this remarkable young man. (I’m 54 and young at heart).
